Frequently Ask Questions
What type of bike do I need to participate?
No specific bike is required. Ride what you feel most comfortable on. The most popular bike last year was a mountain bike and the riders who weren't on mountain bikes said they wish they had been. However, there are many gravel/adventure bikes that now allow you to run 47c and larger tires, which are perfect for this type of course. So grab the largest tire that you can squeeze into your frame and come have fun with us!
What is the course like?
This is a bit difficult to describe without taking you for a ride, but I will try. The course begins on a gravel path used for walking and wagon rides through the village. It dips into some all natural and to some, technical terrain. You will ride on sections of double track that may be hard packed soil, gravel, and mud. There are also sections of single track taking you along creeks, waterfalls, and often through the creek to the next section. There are pastures that have a hard packed dirt path running along the perimeter and much more. - Note: We have eliminated the actual grass and pasture from last years event.
What does is the cost to participate?
A lot of sweat, maybe a little bit of blood, and some money. Look at the prices on here. There are some gradual increases in price throughout the year so sign up early. Day of Registration will be $50 this year.
What do I get for registering?
You get to ride your bike in Shaker Village, you get a discount on lodging, you get a full days admission to all the amenities of the facility ($14 Value). There will be three aid stations with volunteers to assist you, these will include water fill up, hydration supplement fill up, energy gels, protein bars, pickles, chips, and whatever else we decide on. A new addition for this year, an event t-shirt! Also, if you sign up for the open category and complete the full distance before the time cut off, you will receive a finishers patch, very similar to last year's award patches. All categories will have specific awards for the top three finishers
